Keefer Kitchen Remodel

6/14/2021

The Keefer family kitchen remodel turned out gorgeous! It features white cabinetry and a beautiful grey/blue backsplash to create a clean, coastal kitchen for this fun, young family. The best kitchens have a perfect balance of form and function. These cabinets were designed to go from floor to ceiling with a tall riser making great use of the space while finishing off the look of the cabinetry with simple sophistication. The X details on the end cabinets and the shiplap peninsula really bring out the farmhouse feel this family loves. One of our favorite features of this kitchen is the coffee station, it is so functional but also brings such a “homie” aspect to the clean lines of the space. Another incredibly functional component of this remodel is the cabinet just to the right of the coffee station, in the dining nook.  This tall pantry provides the family ample pantry storage. Despite these fantastic aspects of this kitchen, the curved custom hood is really what pulls the whole kitchen together. We are grateful to have been a part the Keefer family’s new, beautiful kitchen and look forward to sharing more beautiful kitchens with you.

Roger Dale Employee Feature

Roger Dale is our next employee feature. He has been part of the Knot Yet team for 9 years. This guy is such a hard worker. He’s always on the look-out for opportunities to be productive. When there’s nothing else to do, he happily sweeps or empties trashcans.  Immediately returning from an install, you can find Roger Dale cleaning, organizing, and restocking his truck for the next job.  He is extremely thoughtful about every detail of his work and is committed to giving our customers his very best.  These traits (and numerous others) have earned him the title “Awesome”.  Although the nickname probably embarrasses this humble guy, it’s accurate and well-deserved. Roger Dale enjoys doing yard work on his days off and a refrigerated swiss cake roll any day of the week. It’s such a pleasure to work with this guy.

Jack Employee Feature

Jack is a true cabinet maker! For nearly 4 decades he’s been building cabinets, drawer boxes, and doors.  We’re fortunate that the past 13 of those years have been spent here at Knot Yet.  If you have our cabinets, this guy put them together.  He’s a man of few words but MANY skills. And he does his work with speed and accuracy that comes from his experience and focus.  There’s really nothing Jack can’t do.   Cabinet door construction is one of the most challenging parts of cabinet making, but this guy even makes that look easy.  He’s a true asset to our team.  When he’s not working with us, he enjoys playing pool and bingo.

S & J Built-ins

We recently had the opportunity to work with a sweet, young couple who live near Lake Wylie. The main living space in their new home had a lovely fireplace and painted wood mantle with empty spaces to the left and right where the walls set back. They asked us to create custom built-ins to match the mantle exactly. In addition to providing this couple some great, hidden storage, these classic built-ins created some much needed visual interest to the room. We worked with the homeowners to determine the perfect scale, shelf placements, and overall layout. We love that these stunning built-ins look like they've always been a part of the home. Be sure to look at all the pictures, especially the last one to see what the space looked like BEFORE.

Charlie employee feature

Our next employee feature is Charlie. He has been with Knot Yet for 17 years. When we say "Charlie can build it," we mean it. He enjoys hunting, fishing, and flying airplanes. Yes, you read that right: flying airplanes! Charlie worked for a commercial airline company before "landing" (haha, see what we did there) here at Knot Yet Cabinet Works. Not only can he fly a plane, but he can also build them and work on them. This talented craftsman is a man of few words, but he is also very kind and extremely smart. We are so grateful Charlie is part of the Knot Yet team.

Cabinetry Care & Cleaning

How to care and maintain your cabinets to keep them looking great:

Can you believe it is already time for the holidays?  Lots of delicious meals and special memories will be made in the kitchen.  And one thing is certain when you mix family, friends, baking, and celebrating… you end up with a MESSY KITCHEN. So, we thought it was a great time to share our recommendations for regular cabinetry maintenance and cleaning. The best way to tackle the holiday mess and keep your cabinets looking their best is to gently clean them along the way.

Water/Liquids: Always wipe drips and spills immediately, making sure to get the entire spill. Water often runs down the front and back of the door/drawer, settling into nooks and the bottom edge. Even the smallest amount of water, if left on the cabinet, can and will most likely affect the finish. High water areas will show wear if not cleaned quickly and consistently.

Dusting: Regularly wipe your cabinets with a soft, clean towel. Microfiber cloths are ideal. Make sure your cloth is free of any crumbs or debris that could scratch the finish.

Cleaning: You may need to slightly dampen the towel to clean spills. For bigger messes, you can use a gentle cleanser (see below). Make sure to wipe the cabinetry again with a DRY, soft, and clean towel when you are finished.

Food and Grease: These should always be wiped off the cabinetry regularly. If left on the cabinets for an extended period, the finish can stain, discolor, or become hazy.

Cleaning Solution Recipe: A simple mixture of gentle dish soap (1tsp) and/or vinegar (1tsp) diluted in half a gallon of water works well. Just wet a clean cloth, wring it out so that it is only damp (not dripping), and wipe downward.

*Any store-bought cleaner should be spot tested on the back of a door to ensure it will not affect the finish. Please avoid Magic Erasers and any cleaners with bleach or ammonia.

DID YOU KNOW??? Hanging dish towels on cabinet doors or finished appliance panels is NOT recommended. The moisture will affect and damage the finish over time.

Our showroom Kitchen: grey, wood hood, subway tile and gold hardware

This is our showroom kitchen. It features a custom hood made of beautiful, reclaimed wood from an old tobacco barn in North Carolina. It's complimented by maple island stained to match the hood. The wall cabinetry is painted a subtle grey. The doors and drawer fronts are a timeless raised panel. Flanking the hood are two cabinets with mullions and seeded glass. Like all of our cabinetry, it also has soft-close full extension, dovetail drawer boxes, and soft-close doors. Throughout this display, we've added a few nice accessories to give our customers an idea of the options available to make a kitchen as functional as possible. There are roll outs, a pullout spice rack, a utensil pullout, double stacked flatware trays, a peg drawer, and even a removable cleaning caddy. This kitchen also features some great Sub Zero appliances that have been integrated into the design of the space. We used several different knobs and pulls from Top Knobs to complete the look. Come see it in person and let us know which accessory is your favorite.
